Bobby Bosler: Welcome to Thee Generation Podcast. We’re so excited you’ve decided to join us here today. And I have to say, I’m really excited about what the Lord has put on my heart here for today. But before I get to that, I want to tell you a little bit of news about what God is doing with the Thee Generation.
Some of you may have noticed that on the website, down at the bottom of some of our static pages, you may have noticed a little flag down there. And there are right now two flags at the bottom of theegeneration.org. There’s an American flag and there’s a Spanish flag. I want to tell you why that’s there.
Just last week, some of the folks from our ministry here in Menomonee Falls went down to Peru for a time of encouraging some missionaries down there. And while they were down there, it became very evident that God was moving among the young people there in that mission’s work.
On the final night before they left to come back to the States, this would have been last Friday night, they presented the vision and burden of the Thee Generation, of total surrender and total dependence to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. And they gave an invitation and invited all of the young people who wanted to commit to that kind of a life, to join that cause.
Well, it’s thrilling to be able to tell you that over 40 young people came back in that invitation and put their names and email addresses on a list because they said, we want to be a part of the Thee Generation. So that’s why there’s that Spanish flag down at the bottom. If you click on it, you’ll see some things in Spanish. We’re in the process of working on some of that, trying to translate not only the static pages, but also the posts, eventually the audio sermons and the podcast even into Spanish. So we’re really, really excited about what God’s doing there. This is going international.
In fact, I have to say right now we’re working on translating some of those things into Lithuanian, into Japanese, and into Hungarian. We would like to branch into other languages as we have adequate translators to do so. But if you think of it, pray for us on that.
Now regarding what I’m burdened to talk to you about here today. You know last time I hosted the Thee Generation podcast, I talked to you a little bit out of 1 Peter 2 and how there in that passage, Peter is challenging us with the fact that our lives are supposed to contrast with those who are disobedient, with the lost world and the fact that he’s saying, okay, that’s how they were, but you, you believers, you Christians are a chosen generation.
And last time we were together, we talked about the fact that shows us that your life has worth. And now here today, we’re gonna be taking a look at the next phrase in 1 Peter 2:9, where it tells us not only are ye a chosen generation, but it adds to that and says, ye are a royal priesthood.
Now this is a little different, a priesthood, a royal priesthood, what in the world is that all about? Well, it’s like this, in the Old Testament, you know that there were priests, and the priests had the holy obligation of standing between God and man. I think of one time when there was one priest who there was a plague happening and this man literally stood between the living and the dead. That was a little bit of a unique phenomenon that took place there, but really their job was to be the mediator between God and man. We know now and in our age here, Jesus is the mediator. He is the go-between between us and God.
And yet here he says that you and I are a royal priesthood, that we in some way are to be mediators. We are in some way supposed to stand between God and men. What’s that talking about? Well, it’s like this. We are ambassadors. “As though God did beseech you through us. We beseech you be ye reconciled to God.”
Do you realize that just like the children of Israel, the priests and the children of Israel were responsible to bring people to God through the whole sacrificial system and all the ceremonies that they did, in the same way, you and I are given the holy obligation of bringing people to Jesus and because that is our role because that’s who we are. We are responsible to mediate the good news of the gospel to the world around us.
I can say this, not only does your life have worth, but secondly, your life has purpose. It has purpose. You know, it’s one thing to be worth, to have worth, to know God values me. And then you and I just kind of sit on our backsides, okay? And twiddle our thumbs and think, okay, so what should I do today? Why don’t we go outside and shoot our water guns? Or why don’t we go down to the store and buy something? Or why don’t we go do something fun? Okay, listen, those are worthless pursuits.
Your life has purpose. Jesus bought you for a price. In fact, in Philippians 3, Paul said, but “I follow after,” I relentlessly pursue, “if that I may apprehend. that for which I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” And what he’s saying there is, listen, I wanna get what I was gotten for. Jesus bought me with his blood because he valued me, but he also has a purpose for me. And I want to accomplish that purpose for my life.
And what I’m trying to tell you, young people, is this. God values you. Your life has worth, but also your life has purpose. God has a reason that he created you. Beyond the general purpose of mediating the good news of the gospel, do you realize that God has a calling for you? What’s a calling? A calling is a customized life purpose. It’s your reason for existence.
Just like God’s calling for Jeremiah was for him to be a prophet unto his people of Israel, even so God has a specific calling for you. My calling is to preach the gospel to teenagers and to pray for a youth awakening, a revival among the young people. God’s purpose and his calling for you might be different, but your life does have purpose. God values you. Your life has worth and your life has purpose. And may God bless you as you live out that purpose for Jesus.
