Is the World Worth It?

Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection… (Of whom the world was not worthy:) … And these all, having obtained a good report through faith… received not the promise… God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

Hebrews 11: 35, 38a, 39, 40

As I reflected on these verses, a question came to me, “Is the world worthy to have me?” Wait! When I put it this way it makes so much more sense. The world is not worthy of these believers. That mans that the believers detested the world because it was not good enough for them.  The rest of verse 38 says “they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.” This makes much more sense now. The cities and gleaming treasures of the world meant nothing, absolutely nothing, to these people. They didn’t care about it. They may have been fleeing from those who would kill them. They probably were, but it didn’t matter. The world meant nothing to them. It wasn’t good enough. All they cared about was what Jesus cared about and that is glorifying God and seeing souls saved. This is what life is all about!

Why do I get caught up with such things in this world that have no impact on eternity? When I lose the big picture, I am not walking in the Spirit, and that is blatant sin against God. Daniel and his three friends would not dishonor God’s name for three seconds by bowing down to that idol. Why don’t we do the same? This is serious business. Don’t think about what people think about you! Don’t follow your whims and the desires of the moment! It’s not worth it! Follow Jesus! That is the best life possible. Follow Jesus and your treasures in Heaven will be innumerable.

Really, my friends, think about it. Whose life is being impacted by eternity because of your testimony? How is God getting complete glory out of your life? Are you willing to stop being a nominal Christian and become a radical Christian? This is what God has called me to do and I am willing to go all out for God. I don’t care what it takes.
